The Context
As the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival prepared for its sixth edition in 2025, the organisation sought UK-based leadership to support its next phase of growth. With filmmakers spanning the Caribbean, US, Canada and UK, the festival needed strong operational leadership to manage national delivery and strengthen internal systems for long-term sustainability.

My Role
I served as Festival Director for the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival 2025, overseeing all areas of development and delivery across the organisation. I was originally brought on as Operations and Communications Director, responsible for logistics, administration, event curation and the full marketing mix including PR, social media and community outreach. As the festival evolved, I took on wider responsibilities and formally stepped into the leadership role.

The Journey
At a pivotal time of growth, I led the redevelopment of the festival’s digital infrastructure including the website, internal systems and newsletter platform. I reactivated dormant social media channels to rebuild momentum and re-engage audiences.

I directed national delivery, working with regional partners in Brixton, Hackney, Liverpool, Bristol, Birmingham, Scotland and online. I recruited and managed team members, secured venues and coordinated detailed logistics and event planning in each location.

To support consistency and scale, I introduced standard operating procedures, internal planning tools and improved communication systems. I also created the festival’s new visual identity, developed original artwork and helped shape the brand direction for this next chapter.

The Result
The 2025 festival was successfully delivered across multiple regions of the UK and online, with renewed energy and a more structured operational foundation. WCFF now operates with improved systems, a refreshed brand identity and a clearer strategic direction. My focus throughout has been on laying the groundwork for sustainable growth and securing the festival’s legacy for future years.
